October 8, 2026
Last October, the Halloween event at Fairview Town Center was a free evening movie on the lawn. This October it runs from noon to 2 p.m. For evening Halloween events, the town's own calendar lists the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary just over the line in McKinney, where one night is new for 2026 and the other sells out every year. That split, along with a youth theater season that runs through Halloween itself, means planning October in Fairview comes down to time of day and tickets.
In 2025, Fairview Town Center held its Halloween Spooktacular at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, at The Park. The event was a free outdoor showing of "Wicked." Families brought blankets and lawn chairs, picked up takeout from the center's restaurants, and the first 150 children ages 3 to 12 got free goodie bags.
For 2026, the center renamed the event and moved it to midday. Fairview Fall Fest runs from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, at The Park, 329 Town Place.
| 2025 | 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Event name | Halloween Spooktacular | Fairview Fall Fest |
| Date | Saturday, October 25 | Saturday, October 24 |
| Start time | 5 p.m. | Noon |
| Centerpiece | Free outdoor showing of "Wicked" | Candy crawl through participating shops |
| Kids' extra | Goodie bags for the first 150 children | Trick-or-treating until the candy runs out |
The event is the same two hours long, but the earlier slot changes who the event works for. A sundown movie suited families willing to stay out into the evening. A noon candy crawl suits younger kids and anyone who wants Saturday evening free for something else.
The Town of Fairview's October 2026 newsletter describes Fall Fest as squeezing "hours' worth of autumn fun into 120 magical minutes." The schedule is tight enough that arrival time matters.
The market can be the longest part of the day for some families. Kids Markets lists a free "Kids Markets at Fairview Halloween Market" at 329 Town Place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, and asks people to reserve a spot. The listing doesn't give a year. Its address and date line up with Fall Fest, so it appears to be the market inside the festival, opening two hours before everything else. Families with a young seller can start at 10 and stay for the crawl.
The Town of Fairview's community events page lists two Halloween evenings at the Heard, 1 Nature Place in McKinney, on back-to-back nights. One is for adults 21 and older and the other is for families.
Fright at the Museum is the new one. The Heard calls it a "NEW Ages 21+ Only Halloween Event" and describes it as being announced this year. It runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 16. Tickets are $39 per person, and Heard members save $5 per ticket. According to the town's listing, the ticket includes two drinks from a choice of beer, wine, soda and water. The night has a short trick-or-treat trail before the movie and a haunted forest walk after it, and the town notes that tickets are limited. The film isn't settled. The Heard's overview names the classic "Halloween," while its tentative schedule lists "Shaun of the Dead."
Halloween at the Heard is the long-running family night, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. Kids trick-or-treat along the Dinosaurs Live! animatronic dinosaur trail, then watch "How to Train Your Dragon" in the amphitheater. Food is sold on site. The Heard says the event sells out every year and that it doesn't sell tickets at the door once they're gone.
| Fright at the Museum | Halloween at the Heard | |
|---|---|---|
| Date | Friday, October 16 | Saturday, October 17 |
| Hours | 6 to 10 p.m. | 6 to 10 p.m. |
| Ages | 21 and older | All ages |
| Price | $39 per person | $16 adults; $12 for ages 3 to 12 and 60 and older; free for 2 and under |
| Member discount | $5 off | $5 off each ticket |
The Heard closes to regular visitors at 3 p.m. on both October 16 and 17 to set up. A Friday or Saturday afternoon visit to the sanctuary on either day gets cut short.
The Heard's two nights land on the busiest days of Fairview's October, and Friday the 16th has the most going on:
The NTPA show is Fairview's own after-dark Halloween option, and it's inside town limits. The Fairview Youth Theatre is at 302 Town Place, a short walk from The Park. "The Addams Family School Edition" plays eight times over two weekends:
Two of those shows fall on the same day as the Heard's family night. The Saturday, October 17 shows at 1:15 and 7:15 p.m. bracket the Heard's 6 p.m. start, so a family can see the matinee and still make the dinosaur trail. The last weekend works the same way. On October 24, the 1:15 p.m. matinee starts just after Fall Fest's 1 p.m. magic show, and the closing 7:15 p.m. show gives that Saturday an evening Halloween option in town.
Before the Halloween events start, Fairview's calendar is built around neighborhood events. The town is holding National Night Out on Tuesday, October 6, and residents who want to host a block party can register by emailing [email protected]. The Town of Fairview's newsletter presents it, along with the First Responders Pancake Breakfast, as a chance to meet the town's first responders. The same week, NTPA's Fairview Youth Theatre runs "Emma! A Pop Musical JV" and "Charlotte's Web," both from October 8 to 11.
Halloween is on a Saturday this year, and NTPA has scheduled through it. "Mary Poppins JR" runs from October 29 to November 1 at the Fairview Youth Theatre, with two October 31 shows at 12:15 and 4:15 p.m. The 4:15 show ends close to the time the youngest trick-or-treaters head out.
The October town newsletter has two notes for Halloween afternoon. The first is about light. Low autumn sun makes small children harder for drivers to see, even before sunset, and the town asks drivers to take extra care in neighborhoods all day on October 31. The second is a service. The Fairview Police Department will scan collected candy with a metal detector for hidden metal objects. Appointments are required and can be made at 972-886-4211.
Here is the season in order:
The only event on this list with ticket-sellout pressure is Halloween at the Heard, and it's the one to book first.
Linda Baker follows Fairview's calendar the same way she follows its streets. If you'd like a showing on a weekday morning when Town Center is quiet, or a builder consultation that doesn't land on a Fall Fest Saturday, request a showing or builder consultation and we'll plan around it.
